The Supreme Leader's discourse in light of the JCPOA towards Western powers

Abstract
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as one of the most complex and challenging issues in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has always been a point of contention between different perspectives in the field of diplomacy. This article, using a descriptive-analytical approach, evaluates the performance of Iranian diplomacy in interacting with Western governments in the JCPOA affair. The main focus of this research is to explain and analyze these relations based on the discursive axes of the Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Ali Khamenei), who has always emphasized principles such as “not trusting the West,” “relying on domestic power,” “being vigilant against influence,” and “preserving national interests and sustainable security.” This article shows that the JCPOA experience, especially the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the agreement in 2018 and the failure of European countries to adhere to their commitments, clearly proved the correctness and correctness of the Revolutionary Leader’s strategic analyses based on the treaty-breaking and unreliable nature of Western governments. A review of developments in recent years (1402 to 1404) also confirms the point that any illusion and Westernization in diplomacy not only does not lead to solving economic problems, but also places the country in a state of passivity and deeper dependence. The results of this research indicate that successful diplomacy against the West is diplomacy based on “interaction from a position of power” and “complete independence,” not diplomacy based on begging and compromise.
