English

One of the issues that has drawn the attention of the vast majority of analysts is the comparative analysis of women's political participation in Iran and Turkey. The question arises: what are the similarities and differences regarding women's political participation in these two countries? It appears that the commonalities include the gap between women's social participation and their access to political power, the role of patriarchal structures and gender norms, the utilization of religious identity, and the role of women's movements. Conversely, the points of divergence include the role of political parties, quotas and affirmative action measures, local elections, the nature of the relationship between women and the state, presidential election dynamics, and the specific forms of women's political activism. The findings of this study—conducted using a comparative method and a descriptive-analytical approach—indicate that women's political participation in Iran and Turkey is neither a static phenomenon nor a fully equitable and inclusive process; rather, it is a gradual, limited, and unequal trajectory contingent upon institutional and political contexts. Although women in both countries have made strides in terms of political awareness, social presence, and gender-based advocacy, a significant gap persists between participation as voters and participation as decision-makers. Consequently, genuinely enhancing women's political impact requires reforming legal mechanisms, strengthening institutional support, expanding intra-party participation, increasing women's access to sources of power, and bolstering civil society and social institutions.
